Default Gas and electric charges

Decided to sort out my fuel bills. Thought we were on the best tariff as I have often asked them, but I pushed a bit harder this time and they suggested I look at the on-line tariffs. OK I had a look and there were loads of them and no indication of which would be best. Anyway phoned them back and finally they agreed to advise me. Apparently Telesales are not allowed to promote on line tariffs!!

They worked out exactly what I had used in a year, for each fuel, what it had cost and then calculated what it would be under a new on-line tariff. Surprise surprise, a saving of £468 per annum.

I then phoned around a few other companies and all came up roughly the same so decided to stay with my existing company.

They do not make this process easy as I did not at first know how best to do the comparisons and had to keep phoning for information. But I am there now and have reduced my DD by £40 per month in readiness!!!!! They also credited me with a complimentary £5 for the inconvenience I had trying to sort it all out.

£468 is a few trips away in the van.

Wow! That is a big saving, Scapa! Will be doing similar myself shortly. I heard about this on the TV not long ago, the man with the money-saving web site was on about it, I think on the One show after the news.

You are right it is a big saving, the shame about it is that those who are least fluent with computer and on line services do not have this option, that applies to the high number of elderly people who do not have new technology.

In total now, with the savings on my phone, household, car and van insurances and fuel I have gone well over the £1000 per annum savings from last years costs.

That's a fantastic saving, we use the on line comparison websites e.g. confused.com, for everything from TV and broadband, insurance, gas and electric etc.

I also use Martin Lewis's money saving website, lots of good advice and information on there.

As you say the money you save will certainly give you a few good outings in the van.
